New Drink spotted...

Picked up a can of a new drink in the offy to-night. It's a concoction of Jim Beam bourbon and Cola. It's actually less strong than you'd think, coming in at just Alc. 4.6% Vol., which is less than some lagers.

I'm not a whiskey drinker but I thought I'd give it a shot, no pun intended. I'm still not a fan of whiskey but I'm glad I tried it. Now, where's me beer...

I Couldn't Go With The Flo...

Ahh damn it.. here's more from the new Flight Of The Conchords' series:

How many Presidents does it take to change a light-bulb?

The Ice-Cream Man Cometh...

While I was reading the paper, I just heard the chimes of our local ice-cream man coming into the estate.

It's not even March yet and two weeks ago it was snowing.

Woody's Latest...

Made my annual Woody Allen visit to the cinema earlier and enjoyed his latest, Vicky Cristina Barcelona.

I'm not saying it was an "Annie Hall" but it was a heck of a lot better than last year's effort, Cassandra's Dream.

The story was good, the acting was top notch and Spain looked lovely.

The BRITS 2009...

I've just watched The Brits on tv and it was poor.

Boring, with lots of the performances mimed, and all topped off with a fairly insipid finishing medley by "lifetime achievement" winners Pet Shop Boys (honourable discharge to Brandon Flowers).

The best performance was by Coldplay, and I'm not even a fan.

Too Many Mans...

Flight Of The Conchords Series2 with Jemaine & Bret is coming soon.

Here's a new number in advance that'll get ya dancin':

The Killers' Hat-Trick...

My favourite pop band of these modern times is The Killers.

I loved HOT FUSS and the follow-up SAM'S TOWN; and now I'm digging DAY & AGE. All are packed with catchy tunes delivered with just the right amount of swagger.

Spaceman, the second single from that new album is out now, and it's pop perfect!

They have their own youtube channel which covers a heck of a lot of their stuff.

You can access it HERE if you want a taste.

Meanwhile, from their "odds and ends" album, SAWDUST, here's their cover of the Dire Straits song ROMEO & JULIET:

Suddenly Spring Has Sprung...

I was driving home from work this morning heading down along the east coast of Ireland under a glorious sky, with the Irish Sea glistening in the distance. Just last week it was dark, and threatening to snow.

It's always amazing the way seasons come in so quickly. I do believe I'd be unhappy in a country that didn't do this sort of thing.

Sadly, I was unable to take a photograph.

What a Banker Part 3...

Seanie F was called to the explain his creative transactions to the Economic and Regulatory Affairs Committee to-morrow but has declined to come along for the chat (see here).

Not so long ago he was willing to talk all about what was best for the economy.

New Dylan Album Out In April...

... I haven't read this anywhere else, so I thought I'd post it HERE.

Meanwhile, here's Dylan's most bizarre official video ever (well, you try to figure out what's going on):

The Best Looking Show On Television...

Mad Men returns on BBC4 to-night, for series2, at 10pm.

It's sumptuous sets, classy clothes and ,oh so, politically incorrect characters make this one of the most enjoyable series on modern TV.

For this series it has jumped two years to 1962 and the times they are-a changin' at an even faster pace.

Can't wait.

Springsteen and the Superbowl...

I stayed up late last Sunday night and caught The E-Street Band's 12minute Superbowl half-time show.

Bruce made a great impact in so short a time (the music was pre-recorded but the vocals weren't).

Here's the first 4mins (you can find the rest on youtube also):

Best Music on Irish Radio...

The best music programme on radio is hidden away deep in the schedule.

It's called "Weekend On One" with Donal Broughan.

It goes out every Saturday on RTE Radio One from 6am to 8am !!!

For weekdays at this time, when there is a far bigger listenership, we get Maxi(!)

Unbelievable.

Recession Music Part 1...

Here's a rollicking number: The Band with Ain't Got No Home (I couldn't find the Clarence Frogman Henry original):
