Patti Smith Podcast Discussions about Dylan...

I'm off on my holidays to Italy to-morrow and have finally gotten around to downloading the Patti Smith hosted discussions on Dylan that were released by Legacy (aka Sony) in 2008. I'm looking forward to hearing them.

You can get them in 19 part chunks HERE.

See you in two weeks.

Ciao!

I Took A Trip To The Middle Of The Road...

I grew up with AM radio (& later FM) and had a snobbish attitude to it's playlist. However, 20years later, Mrs. Nicodemus mentioned some of these acts in passing and I suddenly got a longing to hear the artists that used to be played.

With this in mind I bought 3 albums. These were all greatest hits compilations. The acts were The Carpenters, The Eagles and Fleetwood Mac.

I played them back-to-back this evening and quite enjoyed most of the, well-crafted, songs. It was (mostly) a pleasant listen, but, what I was most surprised at, was the fact that I knew almost all the lyrics, the hooks, the intonations. Obviously I wasn't doing a good job avoiding the music back then.

Upcoming Treats...

I'm heading to two shows over the next ten days. First up is Bruce Springsteen at the RDS this Saturday, and then the one I'm REALLY excited about, my first ever Leonard Cohen gig, which is at the O2 in Dublin on Sunday 19JUL09.

I'm also waiting on delivery of two new albums that I'm looking forward to hearing. These are The Duke & The King's NOTHING GOLD CAN STAY and Levon Helm's ELECTRIC DIRT.

Then it's off to sunny Italy on 25JUL09 for no gigs whatsoever. Maybe I'll get an invite to one of their Prime Minister's famous parties!

It's The Stupid Economy...

This report in yesterday's Irish Independent states that buying a house now is great value. Seemingly first-time buyers can get the best value in 13 years right now with repayments being a lot lower percentage of their income than previously.
In another report consumer confidence reached a 14 month high.

The price of crude oil was €147 a barrel last summer; it's around half that now.

Also credit card accounts are getting healthier as people start paying off debts instead of accruing even more.

All these stories are occuring during the worst recesssion in years.

When we were in the boom-times, we used to lament the excessive cost of buying a house, the high price of fuel and the madcap way we as individuals were owing huge sums on our credit cards.

So the bottom line is a) having houses that are priced out of your reach, b) expensive oil and c) being in loads of debt to credit card companies are the definition of good times.
